The most romantic places in Krakow
The Main Square at night. After dark, with the Cloth Hall and St Mary’s Basilica lit up, the square is at its most beautiful. Start your walk with the bugle call played from the tower every full hour.
The Planty park. A green ring of park around the Old Town. In winter, under the street lamps and with a little snow, it is one of the loveliest walks in the city.
The Vistula Boulevards below Wawel. From the boulevards on the other side of the river, in Dębniki, you get the best view of the illuminated castle.
The Father Bernatek Footbridge. This footbridge links Kazimierz with Podgórze, and couples hang love padlocks on it. In the evening it has a beautiful view of the river.
Krakus Mound. Entry is free, and at sunset you can see the whole city from the top. In February the sun sets at around 5:00 pm, so start climbing a little earlier.
Valentine’s evening ideas
- Dinner in Kazimierz. The district is full of atmospheric restaurants and courtyard cafés, from Jewish cuisine to modern Polish food.
- Dinner on the Main Square. Restaurants on the square cost more, but the view is hard to beat. For Valentine’s Day, book a table a few weeks ahead.
- A concert or a show. Check the programme of the Krakow Philharmonic, the Krakow Opera and the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre. They often prepare special concerts for Valentine’s weekend.
- Coffee and dessert. Krakow is famous for its cafés. In every side street of the Old Town and Kazimierz you will find a place for a long talk over coffee.
